Eligibility Criteria for Secondary Course

To enrol in the Secondary Course, a learner must:

  • Have passed class VIII.
  • Be at least 14 years old.
  • Provide a self-certificate affirming the ability to pursue the secondary course.
  • Present residential proof.

Valid Proof of Date of Birth

Accepted proofs include certificates from Municipal Corporations, Municipal Bodies, Village Panchayats, or any authorised body. An Aadhaar Card from a Govt. Agency is also valid. Orphans and street children can submit a medical certificate from a Government Hospital.

Admission Validity

Once registered, the admission is valid for five years from the date of admission, allowing flexibility for learners.

Direct Admission to Senior Secondary

Learners must have passed the Secondary Course from a recognized Board to seek admission in Senior Secondary. The minimum age for Senior Secondary admission is 15 years.

Subjects and Additional Options

To obtain a pass certificate at the Secondary level, a learner needs to pass in a minimum of five subjects, including one or a maximum of two languages.

Dual Admission for Previous Graduates

Learners who completed Secondary/Senior Secondary Courses from a formal Board of School Education can take admission in the Edument Knowledge Hub for up to four subjects. The scheme issues a mark sheet without a certificate.

Confirmation of Admission

Once admitted, NIOS confirms admission by issuing an Identity Card with admission particulars. An Enrolment Number is also provided.

Learning Resources

Specially designed printed Self Instructional Material for different subjects is delivered to the learner’s home address.

Courses Offered

01. SSLC (Secondary Course):

Applicants aged 14 and above are eligible, with no age limit for enrolment. The course encompasses 13 subjects, including multiple languages. Students can select five subjects, with two languages being compulsory and the other three subjects open for choice. Exams can be taken in either English or Malayalam. Successful completion qualifies students to apply for state and central government jobs.

  • Duration: 6 Months
  • Languages: English, Hindi, Malayalam, Arabic
  • Subjects: Mathematics, Science & Technology, Social Science, Economics, Business Studies, Home Science, Psychology, Indian Culture and Heritage, Painting, Data Entry Operations. Science and Technology, Home Science, and Painting, Data Entry Operations, Mathematics groups include both theory and practical examinations.
  • Exams: Both theory and practical examinations for selected groups.

02. Plus Two (Senior Secondary Course)

Designed for those who have passed SSLC and are 17 years old, the Plus Two course offers 17 subjects, allowing students to choose two languages. This 6-month program, with exams in English or Malayalam (excluding science subjects), is a gateway to Engineering, Medical, IT, and other professional courses. Plus Two is increasingly recognized as a basic requirement for many jobs, including PSC and UPSC.

  • Duration: 6 Months
