Individual learning plans

Start with what you are noticing at home or at school. We will listen first.

Support is linked to your child’s current learning and reviewed as they progress.

Turn observations into clear learning priorities

Useful observations are specific: which tasks are difficult, when a learner needs more help and which strategies already work at home or school. Bring examples of work and any existing teacher or professional observations to explain the concern.

Discuss a small set of educational goals, how parents can contribute and when progress will be reviewed. Learning support and formal diagnosis are different roles; ask the team to explain its scope and any further professional input that may be appropriate.

Start with a conversation

If ongoing sessions are right for your child, ask for a written monthly plan.

Frequently asked questions

The team screens and supports. If a formal diagnosis is needed, they refer you to an appropriate professional.

Ask the counsellor for profiles and qualifications of the special educators available for your child.

Share what you notice during reading, writing, schoolwork or everyday learning. Examples of work, teacher observations and existing professional reports, if available, can help you explain the concern. You do not need to assign your child a label to begin a conversation.

An individual learning plan identifies a learner’s priorities and the strategies used to support them. Edument’s published approach includes personalised planning and progress reviews. Discuss how goals will be chosen, what sessions involve and how the plan will be reviewed.

Family and school collaboration are part of the published approach. Ask how observations and practical strategies can be shared, and agree what information you want to provide to the educator or your child’s school.

Tuition focuses on a subject and its schoolwork. Learning support considers the difficulties affecting participation and learning, with personalised strategies and goals. Explain the concerns to the team so you can discuss which type of educational support is appropriate.

Ask for the proposed learning goals, educator’s role, session format, parent involvement and review arrangements. If ongoing sessions are recommended, request a written plan and fee details so you know what is included before deciding.

Edument’s role here is educational screening and support. If the concern needs formal assessment beyond that role, discuss an appropriate professional referral. An educational support enquiry should not be treated as a confirmed diagnosis.
